I haven't played with my wheel connected for a long time though so it might be required now if KSP has issues. I don't use it personally anymore but I did try it once upon a time when KSP wouldn't recognise my wheel. it's essentially an alternative way of binding axes for use in game. There's a mod that some people find useful. There's no FFB in game though, so I use the whole centering spring thing you'd normally disable when FFB is supported. I have previously played KSP with a 360 pad and my FFB wheel connected with no problems though.
People with HOTAS products where the throttle and stick have their own dedicated USB connections often find that both are seen as the same device, so button 1 and axis 1 on each perform the same action in game. in such a way that certain stages only occur at specific points within a pre-planned ascent profile. It would mean altering the COM shift with staging and throttle control of boosters e.g. I use the quotes because the problem seems to relate more to peripherals that use the same driver or some such. Mechjeb is able to for a well designed shuttle, yet designing it well is one of the most difficult tasks. KSP doesn't seem to like 'multiple controllers'. I'll add a few things that have come up in the past that may or may not still apply. Not sure I would have considered doing that.
